The Mother of All Nations Foundation (MoANF), in partnership with CDD Ghana and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, has successfully organized a capacity-building workshop for unit committee members of three electoral areas within the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality.

The training, held at the Municipal Assembly, brought together grassroots governance actors to strengthen their knowledge and operational effectiveness in advancing community development and accountability.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to enhance citizen participation and improve service delivery at the local level, particularly within rapidly urbanizing municipalities such as Madina—home to one of Accra’s largest commercial hubs, the Madina Market.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr Cheetham Mingle a research associate from CDD Ghana emphasized the organization’s commitment to empowering citizens through awareness and civic engagement, noting that informed citizens are central to a functional democratic system.
The Municipal Planning Officer Mr. Fredrick Asiamah also highlighted the importance of collaborative development planning between the assembly and community stakeholders, underscoring the need for inclusive governance structures that respond to the needs of residents. Issues of gender inclusion were also addressed, with assurances of renewed efforts to strengthen women’s participation in local governance.

A key highlight of the workshop was a technical session led by Madan Jennifer Moffah of the Africa Centre for Governance Studies took participants through the structured six-module training manual covering governance architecture, roles and responsibilities, effective meeting management, data and records management, techniques in engagement with district assemblies, and principles of inclusion and accountability.
The interactive nature of the workshop allowed participants to share practical insights and agree on actionable steps, including improving the regularity of meetings, enhancing communication with community members, and ensuring proper documentation of proceedings.

The Mother of All Nations Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in promoting community development through strategic partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and advocacy aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local governance systems and empowering communities to actively participate in shaping their development outcomes.
