Protecting Tomorrow: Our Stand Against Drug Abuse in Madina Zongo

Mother of All Nations Foundation’s continuous quest to nurture the potential of children and young people in most rural and urban slum communities where illicit drug use is on the rise, the Mother of All Nations Foundation (MoANF) has always believed that the foundation of national development lies in shaping the minds and morals of the next generation. Recently, we took this belief beyond classrooms and learning spaces into the heart of community advocacy by partnering with many other organizations under the United Madina Zongo Against Illicit Drugs Campaign, a homegrown initiative working to end the open sale and consumption of drugs within the Madina Zongo community.

Protecting the Minds That Will Shape Tomorrow

Our Foundation’s educational programs, ranging from the Early Childhood Development Program(ECDP)  to ReadCamp to Adesua Kruwa project, the Future Leaders initiative, and One Million Youth in Tech, are designed to empower children and youth with knowledge, skills, and discipline. However, these efforts can only flourish in an environment that protects young people from destructive influences.

In Madina Zongo, many of our young learners daily walk past areas where drugs are openly used and sold either to school, from school, or when they are sent on errands. The more they see the usage of these drugs, the more society risks normalizing such behavior. Research indicates that exposure to drug use at a young age significantly increases the likelihood of experimentation and addiction in later years. This reality struck at the heart of our mission.

That is why we joined the campaign not only as a partner but as advocates for a safer learning environment. For us, stopping the open consumption and sale of drugs is not just a policing issue; it is a child protection issue.

Community Collaboration for a Common Good

The campaign, spearheaded by community leaders, youth groups, and the Ghana Police Service under the auspices of the Paramount Chief of Madina Zongo, seeks to promote peace, safety, and moral renewal. As part of this initiative, a Neighborhood Watch Committee made up of young men and women was inaugurated to support law enforcement in reducing drug-related activities and restoring order within the community.

By working alongside this movement, the Mother of All Nations Foundation demonstrates our belief in holistic development, one that combines education, advocacy, and community action.

A Safer Community Means Brighter Futures

We recognize that education alone cannot thrive in a vacuum. A child’s ability to learn, grow, and dream depends on the safety and moral health of their environment. Our participation in this campaign represents our commitment to building that environment, one where young people can grow with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

We are proud to stand with the people of Madina Zongo, the Ghana Police Service, and our fellow community partners in this fight. Together, we are sending a strong message: the future of our children is worth protecting, and our community’s transformation begins with safeguarding their minds.
