How Mother of All Nations Foundation Is Transforming Communities Through Education

Nestled in the heart of Accra, the Madina Zongo community has long battled the harsh realities of educational inequality. Just eight years ago, this vibrant yet underserved community was grappling with one of the highest school dropout rates in the municipality—a crisis deeply rooted in the lack of access to early childhood education.

At the time, Madina Zongo had only one public preschool facility, with the capacity to enroll fewer than 60 children out of an estimated 1,500 preschool-aged residents. This meant that children whose families could not afford the high tuition fees of private schools were left with no educational foundation, often roaming the streets until they were old enough to attend public basic school. By then, many had already missed out on crucial developmental milestones—cognitive readiness, fine motor skills, phonetic awareness, and social-emotional learning.

This gap in early childhood education set off a domino effect—leading to poor academic performance, frequent repetition of classes, ridicule from peers, and punitive responses from teachers. For many of these children, school became a place of fear and shame rather than curiosity and growth. The result? A growing number of dropouts by junior high school, with many concluding they simply were “not cut out for school.”

A Bold Response: The Early Childhood Development Program

In response to this pressing challenge, Mother of All Nations Foundation stepped in with a bold and compassionate vision: to transform education in Madina Zongo from the ground up. As a grassroots nonprofit committed to uplifting underserved communities, we knew the solution lay in giving every child a strong educational foundation—starting with preschool.

In 2016, we launched a charitable nursery school with just two children and an unwavering belief in the power of education. Over time this initiative evolved and was rebranded as our Early Childhood Development (ECD) Program. Today, this cherished institution supports over 250 children annually, and we have proudly graduated more than 300 students into Ghana’s public basic school system—with zero dropouts to date.

Educational Innovation Rooted in Play

Our ECD Program is built on a dynamic mix of the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum, Montessori principles, and play-based learning strategies:

  • Montessori-style classrooms, stocked with materials crafted from locally available resources
  • Play-based learning that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and confidence
  • GES-aligned curriculum, ensuring children are academically ready to progress into formal basic education.

Thanks to this blend, our Kindergarten 2 graduates are confidently reading basic storybooks—helping them enter primary school with a strong academic and cognitive foundation.

A Community-Fueled Effort: A Heartfelt Thank You

None of this success would have been possible without the generosity and belief of benevolent individuals from Madina Zongo, Greater Accra, Ghana, and beyond—people united by the conviction that every child deserves an education.
