700 BASIC AND JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS IN AYAWASO EAST MUNICIPAL RECEIVE HOME TUITION

Mother of All Nations Foundation (MOANF) in partnership with United Way Ghana embarked on a home tuition exercise in the Ayawaso East Municipal targeted at 700 basic and junior high school students mostly from vulnerable residents.

The project was aimed at improving the literacy skills (reading, writing and speaking) of young learners and also offer an alternative learning space to keep beneficiaries occupied in their various homes as schools are temporarily and indefinitely on lockdown by government in a bid to mitigate the communal spread of the novel corona virus  which has hit the country and the world at large.

Participating learners were provided with grade appropriate learning materials carefully designed to guide their studies all in the quest to bridge the knowledge gap caused by the pandemic. These learning materials contains locally-flavored stories written by selfless volunteers, and vetted and approved by the Ghana Library Authority (GLA).

Members and volunteers were provided with Personal Protective Equipment like Veronica buckets, face shields, reusable nose masks, alcohol-based hand rubs among others to aid them spend quality hours in the houses of these learners every Tuesday and Thursday for a period of two months

The initiative started on Tuesday September 14, 2020 and ended in November 14th 2020.

This was done as a response to the call by parents and guardians in the municipality t     o the leaders to come out with an initiative that will help their wards get some education despite the closure of schools. They complained that, the closure has forced the children onto the street and many of them are almost adapting to the street life despite the numerous calls by institutions to “STAY AT HOME”.

The project ended with the young learners writing short essays about the project and or some stories that relates to the ones they have read in the reading materials provided.
